The Byrne Case - An Extreme Case of Discrimination
Disability Discrimination at its Extreme
The Byrne Case is an extreme example of discrimination by the USPS. Mr. Byrne was hired under a special disabilities hiring program in 1993. I would suggest a reading of this case to see what Mr. Byrne had to endure. Mr. Byrne passed away in August 2000. The final order was issued in January 2001.
The ruling is 45 pages long. Some items were deleted to protect the privacy of Mr. Byrnes' family. The Acrobat Reader file is 3.625 MB long. Download times will vary dependent on your connection. You will need Acrobat Reader, version 6.0, or later, to view this file. You can download the latest version of Acrobat Reader at Acrobat Reader Download. The page for accessing the Byrne file is listed below!
As you will note, the judge's order has been "sanitized" to protect the innocent, and the guilty. In some instances, the effort leads to cryptic reading, but, all in all, you will discover the United States Postal Service's treatment of one of their employees. All he wanted to do was work...all he received was harassment, and in the end, he died. Was it because of that harassment? You decide!
