Elwyn F. Schaefer received a B.A. from Columbia in 1966 and his J.D. from the University of Colorado in 1969. He was licensed to practice law in Colorado that year and, following a one year clerkship with Justice Robert B. Lee of the Colorado Supreme Court, has practiced in Colorado.
Mr. Schaefer has been practicing law for approximately 30 years and, for the last 15 of those years, has specialized in employment law. He devotes approximately 80% of his practice to the representation of employees in labor and employment law disputes, both in the private and public sector. He has developed a sub-speciality in representing postal service employees over the past few years.
Mr. Schaefer has represented private and public employees before the EEOC, CCRD, the US Merit Systems Protection Board and various agencies and governmental entities. He has also represented employees in state courts, the US District Court for the District of Colorado and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has maintained a Martindale-Hubbell A-V rating (the highest possible) for many years.
Mr. Schaefer is a long-time member of NELA (National Employment Lawyers Association) and a director of the Board of PELA (Plaintiff Employment Lawyers Association).
Administrative Judge Kelly M. Humphrey, in her Decision certifying the class Complaint of John Cyncar v. the U.S. Postal Service, wrote that Mr. Schaefer, Ms. Edin and Mr. McNamara all “have substantial experience in employment discrimination complaints arising under the Rehab Act of 1973".
